Assessing genetic diversity of domestic populations of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) in Alabama using AFLP markers

AbstractAmplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) was used to analyze the genetic diversity of domestic stocks of channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus). Sixteen populations within Alabama (USA) were surveyed using five primer combinations. A total of 454 reproducible, polymorphic bands were detected from 282 individuals, with an average heterozygosity of 0.135. The percentage of polymorphic loci varied greatly within distinct populations, ranging from 18.26% to 100%. Research populations tended to have a lower percentage of loci polymorphic than farm populations. The estimated average Fst value across all loci was 0.4456. However, this value dropped to 0.1763 when the Hicks Farm stock was excluded from the analysis. Cluster analysis by Jaccard's pairwise similarity coefficient indicated high similarity among individuals, with some population-specific clusters and with the Hicks Farm stock being highly distinctive. Nei's population-wise identity measures found all populations except the population from the Hick's Farm related with 96% similarity. The Hick's Farm stock was 34% similar to the other populations. The genotypic information derived from this study is consistent with the historical origins and management of catfish broodstocks. The results of this study suggest that many channel catfish farm strains in Alabama are genetically similar, but some very distinct differences exist. Such information has implications for future broodstock selection and management and for further analysis of interactions between domestic and wild populations of channel catfish.

AbstractThe acidity of NiSO4/γ–Al2O3 catalyst is one of the factors remarkably affecting alkene oligomerization and to which the acid site with strength of Ho ° - 3.0 is to be related. It can be concluded that ethene dimerization can be attributed to coordination catalysis, propene oligomerization might proceed via both coordination catalysis and acid catalysis, while 1—butene oligomerization seems to proceed via acid catalysis.

Theory and MethodologyOn consistency and ranking of alternatives in fuzzy AHP

AbstractIn fuzzy AHP where pairwise comparisons are described by membership values, the treatment of consistency has largely been sketchy. This paper proposes a fuzzy consistency definition with consideration of a tolerance deviation. Essentially, the fuzzy ratios of relative importance, allowing certain tolerance deviation, are formulated as constraints on the membership values of the local priorities. The fuzzy local and global weights are determined via the extension principle. The alternatives are ranked on the basis of the global weights by application of a maximum–minimum set ranking method. Our analysis uses only the data which are considered as consistent. The proposed approach is computationally efficient as it consists of solving only linear programs. An example is included for illustrative purpose.

Adjuvant intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) with concurrent paclitaxel and cisplatin in cervical cancer patients with high risk factors: A phase II trial

AbstractObjectiveTo evaluate the safety and efficacy of adjuvant intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) with concurrent paclitaxel and cisplatin (TP) in early stage cervical cancer patients with high risk factors after radical hysterectomy.MethodsPatients who underwent radical hysterectomy for FIGO stage IB–IIA cervical cancer and had high risk factors for recurrence were recruited. One cycle of TP was delivered before and after concurrent chemoradiotherapy, respectively. Concurrent chemoradiotherapy began 21 days after the start of the initial cycle of the chemotherapy with two cycles of TP delivered on day 1 and day 29 of radiotherapy. Primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and relapse-free survival (RFS), with toxicities, local-regional control (LC) and distant failure (DF) rate as secondary endpoints.ResultsBetween 2008 and 2012, 67 patients were evaluable. The 2 and 4-year RFS rates were 98.2% and 92.9%. Corresponding OS rates were 100%, and 98.0%, respectively. The 4-year LC and DF rates were 98.0% and 5.2%, respectively. Grade 3–4 acute leucopenia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia occurred in 25.4%, 11.9% and 1.5% of patients, respectively. There were 89.6% and 59.7% patients experienced acute vomiting and diarrhea, but only 6.0% and 6.0% patients were grade 3, respectively. No case of chronic toxicity exceeded grade 2.ConclusionAdjuvant concurrent IMRT with paclitaxel plus cisplatin are safe and effective in early stage cervical cancer patients with high risk factors for recurrence following radical hysterectomy.

Effects of Sn addition on phase formation and mechanical properties of TiCu-based bulk metallic glass composites

RésuméObjectifÉvaluation de l’application du protocole relatif à la prévention de l’infection materno-fœtale à streptocoque β hémolytique au sein d’un réseau de maternités (réseau Aurore).Matériel et méthodeÉtude descriptive à partir du dossier obstétrical de toutes les patientes accouchant sur une semaine donnée, au sein des 37 maternités du réseau.RésultatsAu total, 752 dossiers ont été évalués. Pour 91,1 % des femmes, le prélèvement vaginal a été réalisé pendant la grossesse pour rechercher le portage du streptocoque β hémolytique. Au sein du réseau, la fréquence du portage était de 14,2 %. Parmi les patientes éligibles du traitement antibiothérapique per-partum préconisé (2 injections à 4 heures d’intervalle), 46,4 % ont bénéficié du protocole complet. En prenant en compte la durée du travail, près d’une patiente sur deux aurait pu également bénéficier de ce traitement. Pour les nouveau-nés, 86,1 % d’entre eux ont fait l’objet d’une surveillance adaptée. Aucun enfant n’a présenté d’infection materno-fœtale certaine à streptocoque β hémolytique.Conclusion Les équipes des maternités du réseau Aurore ont fortement adhéré au principe de l’évaluation de leurs pratiques. L’application de certains éléments du protocole reste perfectible, en particulier le traitement antibioprophylactique per-partum.
