Highlights•The Callovian-Oxfordian of Saudi Arabia contains an assemblage of moderately diversified shallow marine bivalves.•Ten species were reported for the first time from the Jurassic succession of Saudi Arabia.•Paleobiogeographically, the studied assemblage has a dominantly Tethyan.•There are significant ties with the Middle East, North Africa and China.
