AbstractThe study reports the results of the first national survey of AIDS-related general nurse training in the United Kingdom. A confidential questionnaire was sent to 203 schools of nursing with questions relating to information provision and skill training. The survey revealed that most schools of nursing include AIDS-related information in general nurse training curricula. Only 38% are committed to skills training, however, and less than half have established an Aids policy. The consequences of these findings for nurse education are discussed. Training conditions for nurses in the United Kingdom are unacceptable and it is suggested that general nurse training should be discontinued until improved conditions have been achieved.
