Abstract:

Highlights•The retinal isomers in CaChR1 are quantified.•The P2380 state is accumulated to record the Raman spectrum of the conductive state.•The frequencies of the Schiff base in the closed and open states are determined.•FTIR spectra indicate unusual protonation patterns and large backbone changes.
