Chapter 9 - Multiple-Phase Reactors
Review articleOpen access

AbstractCommercial production of many chemicals often involves reaction systems with multiple phases, such as gas–liquid, gas–solid, liquid–solid, liquid–liquid, and gas–liquid–solid. Since the system involves two or more phases, the reactions will be strongly influenced by transport phenomena, as discussed in Chapters 6 and 7. Building on the previous discussions, we will introduce the gas–liquid and gas–liquid–solid reactions, and briefly discuss the issues related to the design of multiphase reactors.
