The influence of the choice of the auxiliary single particle field in the bbg theory of nuclear matter

AbstractThe convergence of the hole-line expansion for the binding energy of the infinite medium is studied with respect to the choice of the external single particle state field. The binding energy of the medium is computed for two different choices up to an order in the number of hole lines accessible from the explicit computation of the three-body cluster energy. For a model potential comparison is made with available variational results from Fermi-hypernetted-chain calculation giving support to the conclusion of Mahaux et al. concerning their specific choice for the external field. Results are finally presented for the complete nucleon-nucleon soft-core interaction of Reid.
