Abstract:
Highlights•Synthesis of hierarchically structured porous carbon materials by surface twin polymerization.•Mesoporous carbon materials with a microporous shell were prepared by twin polymerization on carbon black particles.•The shell thickness is adjustable by the amount of twin monomer used for polymerization.•Consecutive polymerization of two different twin monomers on Stöber particles leads to double-shelled carbon hollow spheres.•The hierarchically structured porosity was investigated by nitrogen sorption measurement and mercury porosimetry.
