Abstract:
AbstractAn energy absorber was constructed to reduce the energy of the external deuteron or alpha beam of the Karlsruhe isochronous cyclotron. Thin plates of beryllium stepped by 1.0 and 0.1 mm, respectively, are mounted at the top of two closely arranged rods. Two other rods support a ZnS-screen, a beam centering device, a beam measuring foil as well as a beam mask. The following tests are described: measurement of energy, energy straggling and angular distribution of the attenuated particles; transmission measurements of the refocusing lens system; indirect beam current measurements via secondary electrons.
