Synthesis and structural characterisation of a new methylene bridged double butterfly shaped complex [(μ-CH3Te)Fe2(CO)6]2[μ-Te(CH2)Te-μ]

AbstractThe new methylene bridged compound (μ-CH3Te)Fe2(CO)6]2(μ-Te(CH2)Te-μ] has been prepared from the reaction at room temperature of Fe3(CO)9(μ3-Te)2 and excess diazomethane. The compound was subjected to X-ray structural analysis. The crystals were monoclinic, space group C2/c, a = 28.865(10), b = 13.787(7), c = 14.733(4) A, β = 104.67(2)°, U = 5672 A3, z = 8, Dc = 2.637 g cm−3. The structure consists of two ‘(CO)6Fe2Te(CH3)Te’ units connected by a CH2 group.
