Abstract:
Highlights•Entrained air in large-scale bore-driven swash on an impermeable rough slope is investigated.•Laboratory measurements yield characteristics of entrained air and hydrodynamics in swash zone.•Two distinct bubble clouds enter swash zone, wave-tip and wave-plunge bubble clouds.•Void fractions are similar to those measured in surf zone/deep water, but energy loss is much smaller.
