Carbon monoxide replacement by bipyridyl in [Pt(CO)Cl3]−

AbstractA kinetic study of the reaction between [Pt(CO)Cl3]− and bipyridyl (Bipy) in acidic 95% aqueous methanol to give Pt(Bipy)Cl2 is reported. Two stages were observed. The first one leads to the formation of [Pt(Bipy)(CO)Cl]+ by the reaction of [Pt(CO)Cl3]− with BipyH+. In the second there is the slow replacement of CO by Cl− to give the final product Pt(Bipy)Cl2.
