Highlights•Embolization has been used to decrease surgical bleeding of hemangioblastomas.•Embolization does not increase rates of gross total resection.•Embolization does not substantially decrease surgical blood loss.•Embolization is associated with significant risk for procedural complications.•Embolization is not recommended for treatment of intracranial hemangioblastomas.
