Abstract:
Highlights•The methanol extract of Boophane disticha bulbs is more cytotoxic than the hot water extract.•Both extracts follow a similar mechanism of cytotoxicity.•Mitochondrial depolarisation occurs, with no oxidative stress.•Fatty acid accumulation is present, which may predispose cells to steatotic changes.•Cell growth is diminished, however, little cell death occurs.
