Abstract:
Highlights•Three cases of puerperal sepsis with Group A Streptococcus are described.•The same emm type was found in throat cultures of their asymptomatic spouses.•Identical strains found in asymptomatic households probably rules out HAI.•We suggest considering adding screening households as a part of HAI investigations.•This may simplify in-hospital epidemiologic investigations of suspected outbreaks.
