AbstractThis chapter presents an overview and appraisal of the areas of helplessness and control as related to aging, and attempts to elucidate the degree of integration achieved between the psychology of aging and psychology of control. Major areas of deficits in control and aging are reviewed, and conceptual advances made in the field of psychology of control and aging are discussed with special reference to their implications for educational, clinical and training programs for older adults.
