Highlights•Nanophosphors of Dy3+ doped Mg2SiO4 – prepared by facile LCS method (350 °C).•Characteristic emission peaks of Dy3+ ion in the range 470–680 nm are recorded.•CIE co-ordinate values shifted towards white region.•Present phosphor was quite useful for display applications.
