Abstract:
Aluminium and plastics have emerged as the major new materials of the 20th century.A relatively stable price pattern between these and the other major materials: timber, cement and steel, has now been established and may only change gradually as energy costs rise.Unless the price pattern changes drastically further changes in the pattern of use depend upon economic opportunity because newer materials are most readily accepted in rising markets for appropriate products.
