Abstract:

Highlights•Spheroidal CaCO3 composites were prepared by photoinduced crystallization.•2-(3-Benzoylphenyl)propionic acid was used as a photoreactive CO2 generator.•The influence of pH and temperature of the reaction system were studied.•Moderated supersaturation at a lower pH induced direct formation of nano calcite.•Aggregation-based mechanism in the formation of calcite spheroids was proposed.
