Abstract:
Highlights•We determined the frequency of bacterial contamination of used propofol vials.•We found a 6.1% bacterial contamination rate among 198 propofol vials collected.•To our knowledge, this is the first study examining bacterial growth in propofol vials in Colombia.•To our knowledge, this is the first microbiologic report of Enterococcus faecalis in propofol vials.•Education on this topic should stress the appropriate handling of propofol.
